Mythology

The female characters featured in Greek and Roman mythology were often stereotyped or mistreated in ways that still occur today. These self-portraits aim to give power back to these women by confronting the viewer directly and presenting them with alternative interpretations of the stories. The strong lighting and composition draws from the chiaroscuro technique of the Baroque period, whose paintings frequently depicted these stories.
